Improvement of cosmetic essences

Background:

A well known cosmetic company faced the problem of the disappearance of its main aromatic essence provider without reaching an agreement over the rights of the formula. This problem jeopardised the identity of the products of the company, because its clients were used to the flavor of the essence.

Strategy:

Our lab first carried out a characterisation of the most important aromas in the essence. We then determined their origin and carried out a quantification by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry analysis.

Results:

Our lab was able to completely replicate a simplified version of the essence which contributed to a decrease in the manufacturing costs. The cosmetic company obtained the formula of its essence without having to pay a large amount of money to the original provider.
