VALORIZATION OF MINOR VINE CULTIVARS FROM THE PYRENEAN MASSIF (VALOVITIS)
In a context of increasingly competitive and globalized maket, wineries from the POCTEFA area must innovate to differentiate. Minor grape varieties represented only in repository or old plots could achieve this goal by 1) answering to the market demand for discovery wines generating high added value or 2) bringing complexity to “generic” wines after blending. The VALOVITIS project involving three public partners and many associated wineries will identify exhaustively thanks to a participatory approach the grapevine genetic resources of the POCTEFA territories and assess the sanitary status of endangered varieties while ensuring their safeguard thanks to the introduction in existing repositories and the establishment of vinyards of studies. The assessement of their agronomic, technological and aromatic values and the transfer of knowledge to wineries, nurseries, breeding professionals should enhance and promote the development of these minor varieties.
These innovative varieties will provide SMEs of the POCTEFA wine industry with a competitive advantage that will enhance their competitiveness in markets (including export) and maintain economic and social dynamism in the rural areas covered by the project.
VALOVITIS Project has a length of 3 years (2016-2018) and a budget of 700 000 €, it is 65% co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER) through the INTERREG V-A program INTERREG V-A Spain, France, Andorra (POCTEFA 2014-2020).
